It's time for another mobile prank. The classic pranks and practical jokes are always great, but let's hit your friends where it really hurts—their precious (and expensive) smartphones. And what better way to scare the shit out of them than making them believe their phone's been infected by malware?
To accomplish this task, you will need to gain access to their Android phone or tablet so that you can install the fake virus app. And don't worry... it really is a "fake" virus, so no harm, no foul.
Step 1: Get a Hold of Your Friend's Phone
Ask your friend or coworker if you can borrow their phone for a second, or just snatch it up before they make it back from the water cooler. Do what you have to do, just make sure you have a couple of minutes to install the application in the next step.
Step 2: Install "Virus Prank"
On your victim's phone, install Virus Prank by Appsent Minded. It's free on the Google Play Store. Do this as fast as you can, or as fast as the network will let you.
Step 3: Pick a "Virus"
The app comes with nine different fake viruses to choose from, so go through the list and pick your poison. You can scare people with things like a Government Seizure or the notorious Blue Screen of Death. Again, time is of the essence, so pick one quickly, or play with the app on your device first so you know which "virus" you want to use.
Step 4: Alert Your Friend
This is where you have to really sell it. Sigh, panic, let out a verbal "Oh, shit"—do whatever you have to do to make your friend believe that something is seriously wrong with their device.
Realistically, all you really need is a few minutes, depending on how fast you can install the app. You can remove ads with an in-app purchase of $0.99, and the developer is updating the application with new "viruses", and will hopefully bake in features that momentarily disable the home key and prevent the user from exiting the virus view.
For now, enjoy giving your victim a momentary heart attack.
